Tormas are used in tantric rituals as offerings to the Buddhas and guardians of the Dharma. They are also given to subjugate the elemental forces. Tor represents the Dharmadhatu and Ma represents 'awareness wisdom'.
Torma making is a very skilled art and they can come in a variety of colours, shapes and sizes. They are mostly made from flour and butter before a ceremony or ritual, however, they can also be made from wood or metal and kept more permanently on a shrine.
