A vibrant ancient Chong dZi displaying four stripes. This particular type of Chong (Tibetan Wylie: mChong) is most associated with the Himalayan regions and Tibet. Tibetans value this type more than the other decorated agates that were traded to Tibet from India in ancient times. The colour of the agate material and the size and style of the decoration is clearly of a different quality to the stone beads attributed to India. This may well suggest that there was a bead making industry unique to the Himalayan regions and distinct from other known bead making industries like we find in Burma. These Himalayan beads have now become incredibly scarce and seldom come into the marketplace for sale.
