Antique Tibetan Kangling (Thighbone Trumpet)

A beautiful antique human thigh bone trumpet (right femur). Covered in the traditional manner in dark leather to give added protection to the bone. It has also been ornamented with white metal (not tested for silver) and this is mounted with a genuine coral stone cabochon.

There is minor surface cracks appearing on the shaft due to the age, and one of the 'knuckles' has deteriorated a little but the shape is held by the stiff leather and it remains robust. The metal mouthpiece is removeable and the kangling can be played with or without it in place. It is very playable and has a good strong sound.

It is now almost impossible to source genuine old pieces from the Himalayan regions. This is an authentic ritual instrument that remains in good overall condition and it is still very playable and suitable for Chöd practice.

Origin: Tibet/Himalayan
Ex Molly Van Loon Collection
Condition: Mostly very good with minor weathering and patina commensurate with age.
