The Monks of Sherab Ling Monastery
Originally located in Kham in Eastern Tibet, the Sherab Ling monastery today stands in the Kangra Valley not too distant to Dharamshala, home to the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government in exile. It would not be there of course had China not invaded Tibet in 1950, systematically destroying a proud and gentle people and their rich and innately peaceful indigenous heritage.
This album is a curiosity in many ways; not least because of its Grammy win for Best Traditional World Music Album at the 46th annual awards in 2004. This once almost hermetically private music has now found a place on the world stage and perhaps the world becomes a tiny bit better because of it.
The three pieces in this recording give a small but vivid insight into a world where dedication to spiritual progress is paramount.
- The Mahamudra lineage prayer
- Mahakala Puja - Invocation and offering to Mahakala
- Mahakala Puja - Receiving blessings and dedicating the merit to world peace & harmony
